As a tribute to the iconic Israeli actor Alon Abutbul (1965–2025), One of Us (Echad Mi’shelanu) is a powerful 1989 Israeli drama about loyalty, truth, and moral conflict. A military investigator confronts a cover-up of a Palestinian’s death, torn between comradeship and conscience.

About the film

One of Us (Echad Mi’shelanu) is a tense 1989 Israeli drama directed by Uri Barbash that explores friendship, duty and moral ambiguity within the Israel Defense Forces. The film centers on three close friends who serve together in an elite paratrooper unit. Years later, after one friend is killed, military policeman Rafa is sent to investigate the suspicious death of a Palestinian detainee. Official reports claim the suspect died escaping, but Rafa uncovers evidence suggesting a deliberate killing covered up by his old comrades. Faced with a crisis of conscience, he must choose between exposing the truth and protecting the bond of brotherhood that has defined his life.

This tribute comes in honour of Alon Abutbul, the celebrated Israeli actor who delivered a memorable performance as Yotam in One of Us and whose prolific career spanned Israeli cinema, international films like The Dark Knight Rises, and television; he died unexpectedly in 2025, leaving a profound legacy in film and theatre.
