"The German", a 2025 Israeli-German spy drama,
follows Holocaust survivor Uri as he is compelled by the Mossad to hunt the notorious Nazi doctor Josef Mengele, forcing him to confront his past while navigating family secrets and the dangerous world of a secret society of aging Nazis. The series combines psychological thriller elements with a historical narrative centered on the search for Mengele in South America and the trauma of Holocaust survivors.

Q&A with Oliver Masucci, lead actor
Oliver Masucci is a well accomplished German actor. He is the lead actor in the 2025 series The German, in which he plays Uri.
In film & TV, he has earned international recognition for several challenging performances. He played Adolf Hitler in Look Who’s Back (2015), a role that garnered him a nomination for the Deutscher Filmpreis.
He also became well known globally through the Netflix series Dark, in which he portrays Ulrich Nielsen.His role as Rainer Werner Fassbinder in Enfant Terrible won him the German Film Award for Best Leading Actor in 2021. Other notable screen work includes When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, Day Shift, The Swarm and others.
On the theatre side, Masucci has a deep and rich career. After studying acting in Berlin, he performed in prominent theatres across Germany, Austria and Switzerland — for example Schauspielhaus Basel, Hamburg, Hannover, Bochum, Zürich and participated in the Salzburg Festival. He joined the Vienna Burgtheater ensemble in 2009, where he took on many leading stage roles such as parts in Solaris, Major Barbara, Amphitryon, A Streetcar Named Desire, among others.
