Aya’s life changes after an impulsive meeting with a stranger at the airport. When he vanishes, he leaves her with a deep, unexplained longing. Sarah Adler and Yehezkel Lazarov star in this haunting drama about the mysterious ways we seek connection in a lonely world.

About the film

Aya’s routine life is shaken after a random encounter at the airport. She impulsively picks up a man she doesn’t know, but after a brief, intense connection, he disappears without a trace. This sudden exit leaves Aya with a "gnawing hunger"—an emotional void she didn't know existed.
As she tries to find that feeling again, her relationship with her husband, Aviad (a linguist who studies ancient, dead languages), begins to show its cracks. While he focuses on the words of the past, Aya is looking for a new way to communicate her deepest desires in the present.
Dead Language is a beautiful and quiet film about how we often feel most seen by the people we know the least. With powerful performances by Sarah Adler and Yehezkel Lazarov, it explores the thin line between the life we have and the life we secretly crave.

MEET THE director

MIHAL BREZIS & ODED BINNUN director_edi

The Israeli film Dead Language was directed by Mihal Brezis and Oded Binnun, a creative pair who have worked together for many years. They first gained attention with their Oscar-nominated short Aya, which later inspired this feature-length film. Their collaboration tends to focus on subtle emotional moments and the complexity of human relationships, often blending realism with slightly unusual or unexpected situations. In Dead Language, they continue this approach, shaping a story that reflects their shared perspective as both artistic partners and a couple.
